If you’re considering fitted wardrobes for your bedroom, it’s useful to know what sort of budget to allow before getting into the finer details of the design.
At Mirror Image, our made-to-measure fitted wardrobes start from £1,200, with examples on our website priced at £2,100, £3,460, £3,970 and £5,300, including VAT.
The difference in price largely comes down to the size of the wardrobe, the materials and finishes you choose, and how you want the storage arranged.
What Affects the Cost of Fitted Wardrobes?
The size and shape of your room
A fitted wardrobe covering a small alcove will generally cost less than a full wall of floor-to-ceiling storage.
The shape of the room can also influence the cost. Sloping ceilings, chimney breasts and awkward corners may require more detailed manufacturing and fitting to achieve a precise finish.
Internal storage and layout
The way you organise your wardrobe can make a considerable difference to the price.
A simple combination of shelves and hanging rails will typically be more economical than a design featuring multiple drawers, compartments and specialist storage.
Before choosing a layout, think about what you actually need to store. There’s little point paying for additional features if a straightforward design will do the job.
Doors, materials and finishes
Your choice of doors, handles and finishes will also affect the overall cost.
At Mirror Image, we manufacture our fitted wardrobes using MDF and melamine-faced particleboard, with a wide choice of colours, panel styles and finishes.
Some designs are more expensive to produce than others, so it’s worth exploring the available options before settling on a particular look.
Manufacturing and installation
Unlike freestanding wardrobes, bespoke fitted furniture is manufactured specifically for your bedroom.
Our wardrobes are made in our Norwich workshop and installed by our own team of skilled fitters. Each installation is tailored to the room, with components carefully adjusted to make the best use of the available space.
Are Sliding Wardrobes Cheaper Than Hinged Wardrobes?
Sliding wardrobes are often a little cheaper than traditional hinged-door designs, although the final price still depends on the size and specification.
For example, our fully fitted, mirrored Halifax sliding wardrobes are priced at:
- £1,200 for widths up to 1,525mm (two doors)
- £1,420 for widths up to 2,200mm (two doors)
- £1,990 for widths up to 3,200mm (three doors)
These prices include VAT, installation, one shelf and a hanging rail.
Sliding doors can also be particularly useful in smaller bedrooms where there isn’t enough space for doors to open outwards.
Are Bespoke Fitted Wardrobes Worth the Cost?
It's easy to assume that bespoke fitted wardrobes will cost considerably more than freestanding alternatives, but that isn't always the case.
We've seen examples of freestanding wardrobes in major high street stores priced very similarly to some of our own fitted installations.
The main difference is that our made-to-measure wardrobes are designed around the exact dimensions of your room. Rather than leaving unused gaps above or beside the furniture, they can make full use of the available space from floor to ceiling and wall to wall.
If you're working to a particular budget, keeping the internal layout relatively simple and choosing less elaborate finishes can help control the cost without sacrificing the benefits of bespoke furniture.
