If you’ve been thinking about getting fitted wardrobes or custom furniture, chances are you’ve already done a lot of research. You will have looked round a few websites and maybe even visited some showrooms to get some inspiration. Taking the next step and actually speaking to a supplier about what you’re looking for can sometimes feel like a big step.
For those of you thinking of taking that step, you might be wondering what actually happens during a design consultation - and whether it’s more of a sales pitch than a chat.
We get it. That’s why we like to be upfront about how we work and what you can expect from the process. Our free design consultations are friendly, informal, and all about helping you find the right solution for your home - not pushing you into a decision.
Here’s a step-by-step look at what happens when you book a design consultation with Mirror Image.
Step 1: A Quick Chat Before We Visit
When you initially speak to us, either over the phone or in one of our showrooms, we’ll have a brief chat to confirm a few details.
We’ll ask about the kind of furniture you’re interested in (fitted wardrobes, sliding wardrobes, home offices, or media walls). It’s also helpful to know more about the space you’re working with and ideas or photos you already have in mind.
This just helps us bring the right samples, materials, and ideas to your appointment - and makes sure your designer can make the most of your time.
Step 2: A Friendly Visit to Your Home
The first thing we always look to do upon arriving at your property is to have a relaxed chat about your space. There’s no hard sell - it’s really just about getting to know what you’re hoping to achieve.
We’ll take a look at the room together and listen to what’s working (and what isn’t). Maybe your current wardrobe doesn’t fit properly, or you’ve got wasted space in an alcove. Perhaps you’d like to combine hanging rails, drawers, and shelving, or hide a TV within built-in units.
We’ll also take precise measurements - down to the millimetre - so we can plan something that truly fits your space.
Step 3: Talking Design Ideas
Next, we’ll go through design options. This is where things start to come to life.
We’ll show you different door styles, finishes, and materials, as well as examples of internal layouts that match your storage needs. You can mix and match ideas to create something completely your own.
Want mirrored sliding doors to make a smaller room feel bigger? Or a classic shaker-style hinged wardrobe in a warm oak finish? Our designers can help you to visualise what that will look like and how it complements the rest of your home.
We will also discuss practicalities with you. Would you prefer drawers or shelving? Where would you like your hanging rails? Do you require additional space for shoes, bags, or accessories?
Step 4: Clear, Transparent Quoting
After we’ve discussed your design, we’ll put together a clear, no-obligation quote. Our quotes always include:
- Design, manufacture, and installation
- VAT
There are no hidden extras - what you see is what you pay.
We believe in keeping things transparent and straightforward. You’ll know exactly what’s included before you make any decisions.
Step 5: Taking Your Time to Decide
We never pressure anyone to decide on the spot. Once you’ve got your quote, you’re welcome to take your time, look through our brochure, or pop into one of our showrooms to see more of our work in person.
If you have any tweaks or ideas later on, we can easily adjust your design or layout. The process is flexible because we know that great design takes a little time to get right.
Step 6: Ready to Go Ahead?
If you decide to go ahead, we’ll get everything booked in - this includes confirming your design, ordering the materials, and scheduling your installation date.
Every piece of furniture we install is manufactured in our Norwich factory. This means that there is usually a short lead time of approximately 6-8 weeks while we source components and prepare your bespoke design. However, once it’s ready, our own team of experienced fitters will arrive at your property to carry out the installation - we never use contractors.
They will handle everything from start to finish to ensure that your furniture fits seamlessly into your room.
