What's the Best Wardrobe for a Small Bedroom?

Small bedrooms can be cosy…but they can also be a bit of a puzzle when it comes to storage. You want something stylish, practical, and not too bulky. So what’s the best wardrobe option when space is tight?

Let’s have a look at what works - and why.

Go Built-In, Not Bought-In

If you’re using a freestanding wardrobe in a small room, chances are it’s either too big, too small, or just plain awkward. You end up with wasted space at the sides, a big gap at the top, and doors that swing out right into your knees.

That’s where built-in wardrobes make all the difference.

At Mirror Image, we don’t do “one size fits all”. Every wardrobe we make is built to measure - floor to ceiling, wall to wall - so it fits your room like a glove. No clunky fillers. No wasted corners. Just beautifully made furniture that works around you.

Why Sliding Doors Make So Much Sense

If space is limited, sliding wardrobes are an absolute game-changer.

No doors swinging out into the room means you’ve got more space for furniture - or just room to move! And they look effortlessly sleek, especially in modern or minimal bedrooms.

You can also go for mirrored panels, which do double duty: they reflect light and instantly make a small room feel bigger and brighter.

What About Hinged Wardrobes?

Hinged doors still have their place - especially if you’ve got room to open them properly, or if you want full access to the wardrobe all at once. They also give a more classic feel and work well with traditional interiors.

But if you’re really tight on space, sliding doors usually come out on top for usability.

Make the Most of Every Inch

Small rooms need smart storage - and that’s exactly what we do.

Whether it’s double hanging rails, clever internal shelving, or space for shoes and bags, we’ll design something that fits your life. You won’t need to cram in extra drawers or units elsewhere - it’s all built in.

Oh, and we always build right up to the ceiling - no wasted space above. Perfect for those bits and bobs you only reach for once in a while.

So… What’s It All Cost?

We get asked this a lot. And while every wardrobe is bespoke, here are some typical examples from our Halifax range to give you a ballpark:

  • Up to 1525mm (5ft wide): £1,075
  • Up to 2200mm (7ft 2in wide): £1,245
  • Up to 3200mm (10ft 5in wide): £1,745

All prices include VAT, installation, and a shelf and hanging rail - so what you see is what you pay. No surprise add-ons. And because we do everything ourselves - design, build and fit - we’re really competitive on like-for-like quotes.
